Are you excited to hear who won the summer contest and see the pictures? With a little delay the blog and the pictures are finally here.

The winner of our Annual Back Lane Art Show last summer was Barb W. S. from Parksville. I was very happy that it was her who won the free photoshoot.

The Decision to Participate

I called Barb right after I drew the winner. At first, Barb felt unsure about joining the photoshoot. The thought of stepping in front of the camera was intimidating, particularly due to her ongoing struggle with alopecia. This autoimmune condition affects approximately 2% of the population and can lead to substantial hair loss, which often shakes one's confidence and self-image.

However, the opportunity presented to Barb began to feel transformative. After considering it and talking to her girlfriends, Barb took the courageous step to participate, marking a new chapter in her journey.

When we met for our first consultation, we talked about self esteem, her condition and how it impacts her life. We agreed that the photoshoot could be more than just a personal experience; it could also shine a light on the struggles many face and help them to accept and love themselves the way they are. We all have our own struggles and insecurities and I hope that our photo shoot with Barb will show you that the real beauty is in your self-acceptance and embracing your authenticity.

Barb's message highlights how vulnerability can lead to genuine confidence and empowerment.

What Barb said

"I’m not a model but Ali made me feel like one. She is a consummate professional. She took me through the process step by step so ensuring a great experience. We have beautiful locations and I am so pleased with my finished photographs. I am happy to have met Ali. I can highly recommend her and her work."

The Photoshoot Experience

The photoshoot was a liberating experience for Barb. This wasn't just about capturing shots; it was a powerful statement that everyone deserves to feel beautiful, regardless of societal expectations. We had a great time at the shoot and Barb was a good sport and a fantastic model. She was relaxed and natural in front of the camera and I think it shows in her pictures.

The beautiful cove in Nanoose Bay was very private

but we still had our portable changing room with us.

Here is Barb changing into one of the three outfits we picked together for our session.

Barb is very athletic and physically active woman. She plays soccer for a local team that competes in BC games in 55+ category.

I could ask her for any pose and she would do it with an ease and grace.

A Journey of Empowerment and Inspiring Others

Barb's journey toward self-acceptance and empowerment is truly remarkable. Initially hesitant to participate in a photoshoot, she ultimately embraced her condition, alopecia, to showcase her strength through photographs. By taking this action, she encourages others to accept their own unique traits. Her photos not only highlight Barb’s beauty but also serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for others who may feel insecure about their own unique differences.

Let Barb’s journey motivate you to discover your own strength and embrace what makes you different. By doing so, you too, can radiate confidence and inspire those around you.
